With an aim to maintain number one position in India and to meet the increasing customer demand and to introduce new technologies for manufacturing of wet brakes and clutches required for off-highway industry, Miba Drivetec India (MDI), the wholly owned subsidiary of Miba AG Austria has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Pune at Koregaon Bhima, Nagar Road. Initially started in the year 2007, Miba had the advantage of being the first mover in India for manufacturing components for brakes, transmission, axles, clutches for off-highway industry.
The new manufacturing plant was inaugurated recently by H.E. Brigitte Oppinger Walchshofer, Austrian Ambassador to India, in presence of F. Peter Mitterbauer, Chairman, Miba Group, Martin Liebl, General Manager and MD, Miba Friction Group, Satish Barve, MD, Miba Drivetec India Pvt Ltd and V. Badri, Executive Director Business Development, Brakes India Pvt Ltd, Chennai. The official plaque opening ceremony was presided over by Martin Liebl and Satish Barve.
Miba is a leading supplier of industrial bearings, friction and sinter solutions for automotive, construction machinery, tractors, aircrafts, wind energy and highspeed trains. It also provides solutions for hybrid as well as e-mobility drives.
With an investment of Rs 9 crore in the setting up of the plant and machinery, Miba Drivetec India, which at present manufactures components for brakes, transmission, axles, clutches for off-highway, has capacity to manufacture 25 lakh friction discs as well as steel discs annually.
The company’s future expansion plans in India will also include setting up of clutch button manufacturing line to cater to dry clutch business for tractors as well as commercial vehicles.
“The Indian operations manufacture wet friction solutions for off-highway applications and also provides solutions for dry clutches for the commercial vehicle industry in India. Pune was chosen as a strategic location as it is a hub of automotive manufacturing and many of our customers are located here. Since the city is also known as ‘Oxford of the East’, availability of technical manpower is easy,” said Satish Barve, MD, Miba Drivetec India Pvt Ltd.
